Day 1.
Around 530pm on Wednesday, Trish & Jay picked me up from my house in our brand new 2009 Toyota Sienna Van and we went on our way to scoop up Billy & Rob from work. I was extremely shocked when we were able to get all our luggage to fit with no problems. The first stop on our road trip was Gainesville and what an experience that was between the bars and the breakfast buffet at Shoney’s. But we did have fun visiting our friend who has an amazing house off campus with a giant dog that could be confused for a polar bear. The weather was beautiful and it was nice to step outside in Florida and have to put on a sweater and scarf.
Day 2.
Back into the van and en route to Atlanta. I think I was sleeping most of the way up there except for a few moments when we’d stop to stretch or grab a bite. We arrived at our luxurious hotel in downtown Atlanta around 5 and we had to do a little rearranging of the furniture in order to fit our air mattresses and all the luggage. (fast forward to our last night there, we realize the sofa is actually a pull out bed) Rob was extremely excited about our hotel location because when you stepped outside the lobby doors we were staring into the window of the New Era store. (yeah I’m just THAT good of a travel agent) Naturally he made some great pickups but I don’t want to steal his thunder and I’ll let him blog about his shopping. We took a little walk into downtown to grab some dinner and rest before heading over to see Ratatat at the Masquerade. The show was great however the after party was even better. Much to our surprise The Juan Maclean was performing downstairs and it was a fucking blast. Naturally we all wanted to find some food after our partying and we discovered a 24 hour diner/bar near the hotel that also had some serious karaoke going on. I actually ran into some people that recognized my sleeve from the internet and we took some pictures together. (yeah yeah laugh it up)
Day 3.
We spent the early afternoon doing a little shopping at H&M where sadly I didn’t find too much, but that ended up being a good thing later on in the weekend. Due to Atlanta having gas issues, the second part of our day was spent having quite the adventure. After realizing our gas light was blinking we were driving around like headless chickens trying to find a solution. Luckily Rob found a website that was listing the names & locations of gas stations that were in working order. I think the only reason we got through the adventure was due to 40s & Sparks.
That night we headed over to the Graveyard Tavern for the Eastern Bloc Party and what a fucking party it was. I haven’t been to a night that good in years and I certainly haven’t heard anyone spin like that in quite some time either. Preston Craig of KissATL killed it all night long and I really hope we can get him to come down south to spin. He played all the good old school jams, everything you want to hear but never get too, and a ton of stuff that is fun to sing-a-long too.
They had the KISSATL van there too which was fucking awesome. I want my own personal ice cream truck…
I got to party with my home girl Anna.
and I got to hang with my BB girls Kneese and Lola.
I can’t wait to see those 35mm pics you took!
Day 4.
Rob & I had quite the shopping day.
Hit up the hood spots for some sneakers & hats. Once again I’ll let him gush about his pickups.
Took the train down to L5P where we both went a lil wild. The train system down there is awesome and clean and I wish we had some better public transpo. The walk from the train station to the shopping district was really nice especially since the weather was beautiful and there were some really neat older looking houses to see.
The first spot we hit up was this vintage store where I spent a gazillion dollars but got SO much.

Shopped a bit more at Wish where I found a bunch of sneakers I wanted but they didn’t have my baby feet sizes in any of em. Bummmmout. They had some cute female clothing but nothing that really grabbed my eye at the moment. Ate some really good pizza and then headed back to the hotel to meet up with the others to get ready for Cut Copy & The Presets.
What a great show. What a great dance party. I think I sweat out everything I ate the entire weekend (not a bad thing). The pics were taken by the oh so magical iphone and I believe he has a bunch more. The funniest part of the night was this little asian kid who was standing in front of us who stood still like a tree during the entire set and refused to dance. We also had a very strange but amusing moment outside with the dudes from CC.
Day 5.
the drive back to SoFl. sad. We drove straight through and actually made really great time even with all the stops we made along the way. When we were done, the hotel room looked like a hurricane or Motley Crue had gone through it. I am pretty sure I was comatose throughout the entire ride home and didn’t wake up for much.
So not happy to be back. However I can’t wait to get up there asap for some more partying. I took some pictures with my new HOLGA but they haven’t been developed yet and I wish we all took some more digital pics of the trip. All in all, it was a great trip and I need some more road tripping adventures in my life.
Next one in line…North Carolina.
