In 1998, four New York City friends entered our living rooms and changed the lives of women all over the world, each week tuning in to find out what was happening with the girls, and more importantly to scope out what they were wearing. As the years went by, we were torn between Aiden vs. Big, lusted after Carrie’s Dior handbag collection, laughed at Samantha’s sexual escapades, rolled our eyes at Miranda, and fell in love with Charlotte. Six seasons later, Mr. Big finally made his choice, and our beloved Sex and the City came to an end. . . or so we thought.
In 2008, the first Sex & The City movie hit the big screen giving us a look at what our favorite foursome had been up to, it was a nice way to end the series a decade after the first episode aired. But Michael Patrick King felt otherwise and decided Sex and the City 2 was needed, and in 2010 fans headed back to the theaters for the sequel. (And, if you ask me that film was an absolute disaster. ) So after 94 episodes and two movies you think it’d be a good idea to put these ladies into retirement already right?
Well ladies, according to Grazia Magazine, there is another movie in the making, but this time we’ll be seeing some younger faces, namely Gossip Girl star Blake Lively. Last year Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell released her brand new book, “The Carrie Diaries”, a prequel to the series surrounding Carrie’s life before and leading up to her NYC move. The author just wrapped up the second book in the series entitled, “Summer in the City”, and it seems Michael Patrick King wants to see the pages come to life once again on the big screen.
“There are no plans to bring SJP and the other girls back together in the old format,” says an insider. “The prequel is about breathing new life into the story and exploring Carrie’s first few months in NYC and the beginning of her relationship with an older man.”
I’ll be the first to admit that not only do I love SATC, but I also really enjoyed reading “The Carrie Diaries” and I’ll probably like the second one too, but another movie?!?!? I think they need to let go of the series and move on to something else, especially after the disastrous second film. Additionally, I cannot stand Blake Lively, so the idea of seeing her play yet another role as a New York City girl completely turns me off to the film. If anything, I think they should go with an unknown, but what can you do? That’s Hollywood for you.
What do you think of this upcoming movie news? Do you think they should put the series to rest or keep making movies? Who would you rather see play Carrie or are you in favor of Blake taking on the role?
