There is Nothing Glamorous About Carpal Tunnel
Fact: Having Carpal Tunnel sucks.
Fact #2: This blog post is probably going to be quite pointless. (But isn’t that the point of a blog?)
I’m not sure when it started, all I know is dealing with Carpal Tunnel is an absolute drag. Lately, it’s been snoozing away, not really bothering me. But, on Friday afternoon — completely out of nowhere — my hand and arm began to experience some extreme sharp pains. After complaining way too much to Brett, he insisted I go to CVS and replace my missing hand/wrist thingamagig. Yes, replace. I’m terribly irresponsible with health and taking care of myself, so it’s no surprise that I lost my original hand brace quite some time ago. And staying true to my nature, I never replaced it and just went on living life with the occasional hand pain.
Well, now I had to succumb to this annoying condition. And thus I was stuck wearing a hand brace all weekend. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for not being in pain, but the vain, ultra-girlie, style loving version of myself can’t get over how ugly this brace is. Why haven’t they made them more appealing to the eye? Can I get a hot pink one? Maybe one with glitter or leopard print? Is that so much to ask for? Then perhaps I’d wear it more often than not.
Well, since I resisted wearing it for so long, now I think I’m going to be stuck with it on for most of my days, especially when writing. After wearing it all weekend, the pain began to subside, but the moment I picked up my pen and hopped back on the laptop, hand cramps all around. Sigh. I don’t really want to ever go the surgery route, but the pain seems to be worsening.
Does anyone else have Carpal Tunnel? Are you as much as a brat as I am when it comes to wearing the hand brace? Do you have any suggestions for pain relief? (besides taking pain pills) What about acupuncture?
