Life Lately…

Well, hello there. . . I know. I know. It’s been a ridiculous amount of time since I’ve given any thought to blogging. Quite honestly, I just don’t know when I would have had the time. Sure, that’s been my excuse over the last two years or so, but I just haven’t been able to bring myself to sit down in front of this blog and empty my thoughts. I’m not really quite sure why I’m so blocked up, or why I rather relax and read instead of churning out blog posts like I used to. It’s something I think about quite regularly, but just never get around to doing it. A little bit of me blames Instagram. Maybe I should share less photos on IG, and that’ll prompt me to do some actual blogging about life happenings. Instagram has sort of become comparable to Tumblr in the way that it’s a bit like microblogging. Don’t you think?

Anyway. . .

So, my life lately has truly been a whirlwind of happenings. The last I checked in, we had found our house and begun the shopping process for furniture and home decor goodies. And now here we are a month and a half later, and we are all moved in! We’re still getting settled in, and we’ve found so many amazing pieces to furnish the house with, I can’t wait to share a full home tour on the blog. I made sure to take a lot of “Before” photos. Our goal in this house is to do away with any Ikea/Target furniture and replace it all with thrifted and vintage goodness. We’ve been pretty successful in this effort, I’m actually quite impressed with how the universe has presented us with so many gifts.

In addition to moving into the house, another piece of the settling in process has been acclimating our pets to one another. Brett has three cats and two birds, and I have Biscuit, who has never met a cat in her life prior to this move. While Brett was able to keep a pretty positive outlook on the situation, I was very nervous about it all. Biscuit isn’t an aggressive dog, but you never know with terrier breeds. Fortunately for us, we couldn’t have asked for a better outcome with the animals. The cats don’t really want anything to do with the dog, and while Biscuit is quite curious about the felines, she leaves them alone for the most part. Every now and then we have to redirect her attention if she starts to get too close to the cats, but overall it’s gone smoother than expected. Major sigh of relief.

On top of moving in, we attended two amazing weddings in the span of two weeks. First, we went to one of Brett’s oldest friend’s Indian weddings which was absolutely magical. Shortly after that, we hopped on a plane to NYC for my cousin’s wedding and a mini vacation. (I’m realizing how much has really happened over the last two months, hell the first half of the year and how many blog posts I could do…) Then there was the pop up shop, a music festival, a friend’s art show, Brett’s birthday, the end and beginning of school semesters, and lots and lots of treasure hunting.

It truly has been nonstop happenings.

I promise I’ll be back sooner than later to get the blog up and running again. Brett and I are working on a project together that I really cannot wait to get launched. And I have a ton of blog post ideas that I would love to get moving on.

As always, thanks for sticking around and reading the few updates that I’ve churned out in the last year or two. One of these days I’ll be a regular blogger again.

A New House, Treasure Hunting, & Decor Inspiration

Another month gone by, I cannot believe it. And to be quite honest, life hasn’t slowed down one bit. Part of me loves that, the other part of me wishes it would. However, I don’t think it will until May 1. Ah well. Lots of news and life updates happening around these parts.

The reason things have been so busy is because we’ve been in house hunting mode. Originally, my lease was up at the end of March, but there was too much going on with weddings, traveling, and work to even fit in a big move. The process of trying to find a place can be real daunting, especially when you have such requirements that include affordability and having at least 3 bedrooms. (I have Biscuitdog and he has three cats.) The first few places we sought out were a real let down. It was difficult to not become discouraged pretty quickly as we felt we would never find something. Then, magically, the universe presented the most adorable house to us in a cute neighborhood late one night. Within five minutes of taking the tour, we put down a deposit and let out a huge sigh of relief.

-1It might not look like much from the outside, but I am so in love with it. It’s got 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, living room area, kitchen, dining room, foyer, and a Florida room in the back that extends the entire width of the house. There is also a huge fenced in yard which I’m almost positive is going to be a dream come true for Biscuitdog. It’s all wood floors throughout and has so much natural light coming in. I could just squeal with excitement. -2
Even though we have a month to go until the move in date, we’ve already begun hunting for furniture and treasures. This morning we got up at 9am and headed out to some local thrift spots and consignment shops. Once again the universe was sending us magical energy as we found the most wonderful vintage couch for only $85. The photo above isn’t really doing it justice as the sunlight makes it look extremely faded. But, it’s actually in perfect condition. I think there must have been plastic on top of it for decades. We also scored a rad table and chairs, and a chair for my writing room. One of the wonderful things about Brett is that he has similar taste to mine, and only wants to decorate and furnish the house with vintage and antique pieces. It’s so rare to find a guy who is actually into that type of style, and I am so happy that he is one of them.

Naturally, I’m becoming obsessed with scouring the internet for a bit of decor inspiration. Earlier this evening, I fell into the black hole known as Pinterest. I think I lost two hours of my life without realizing it. My desktop is quickly becoming covered with photos. I was going to share a few on the post, but I always feel bad about re-posting images from Pinterest as they never have the source info. I’m also seriously swooning over the home tours on Elsie and Danielle’s blogs.

If you have any recommendations for good decor inspiration or home tours, share them in the comments!
